Big Wind, Big Waves

7 Oct 2023

Today at the lake it was crazy cold and windy. Like wind-chill cold. The temperature was 47 F, but it felt like 20 F. F!!!

I arrived early so I could get my wetsuit on properly and be ready when my swim buddy arrived so she didn’t have to wait for me to get into the water.

I arrived too early, so killed time taking photos of the waves. I’m bummed that they don’t look as big as they were. I didn’t notice, but H commented that the city had taken down the rope and bobber thingies that marks off teh swim area. Even they think it’s too cold to swim.

I felt fine in my wetsuit, but my ankles were c-c-c-cold. I tried to swim but the water was tossing me around; my snorkel was blowing all over the place. I could feel it moving around. Every five strokes or so a leaf would slap me in the face, or maybe a twig. I gave no F’s.

I love swimming in crazy water. And I was feeling very happy to have my thermal suit because I felt perfectly comfortable. I wondered if the people in the condos across the street were watching us, thinking we were crazy.

After our swim, H in her swim parka and me shivering in my top and shorts, H said she loved the looks she got from people walking by on swim days like this. Like we are the crazy people. Y’all don’t know how much fun it is.

The bike ride home was so cold because I only had shorts and a merino jacket. I was smart enough to take off the wet swimsuit, though. But wow was the wind strong. Biking is suddenly not so fun.

I am taking the rest of the day and night off because I’m so tired. Tomorrow I will try to see some sights or cousins. Until then, I have some tea to drink and some things to read and maybe a WhatsApp chat with my homey, E!
